Sweet Lemon Designs
Case Study

I (virtually) met Maria after she contacted me on Facebook. Our first call was at 4:00 am (my time) and 2 pm her time.

Maria is from Cyprus and I’m not going to lie—I totally googled “where is Cyprus” after she explained where she lived. Let’s just say geography was never my strong suit. But honestly, if you haven’t googled Cyprus, you should. It may just be my next destination vacation.

Maria is a designer who is taking the leap from corporate world art director to design studio owner. Let’s just say she’s clearly a rock star at what she does. Her 15 years of experience coupled with a passion to help people transform their business with beautiful designs is what makes her powerfully unique.

Maria began creating her design website. She did a lot of research and some writing but described it as “very unfocused and incomplete.” That’s when she made the decision to hire a copywriter (yay me!) so that she could focus on other important aspects of her business.

We started by getting to know each other on a 30-minute discovery call. I asked Maria a few important questions and presented my copy suggestions. Since this was copy for a brand-new site, I was excited to be able to start from scratch.

We agree to 5 landing pages (home, about, work process, services, and contact) and I included a brand and tone guide, a full audience analysis, a couple of options for USPs and one-liners, and a full list of keywords.

USPs and one-liners

I spent a huge chunk of my time behind the scenes doing market research, finding keywords to attract Maria’s ideal audience, brainstorming the brand voice and brand tone, and so much more! I wanted to make sure that we had a clear strategy before jumping into the copy.

Next, I spent many early morning hours crafting copy to capture the attention of the people Maria wanted to serve. I also provided Maria with a wireframe of each google doc, so that she could easily envision how the copy could look on her site.

After only a few minor edits, we marked the project as complete. Maria was excited to add this copy to her website, finally making it complete.

What was Maria’s response to the copy?

We’ll let her speak for herself:

I was in the process of building my website and trying to write my copy. I had done a lot of research and some writing but it was just very unfocused and incomplete.

I now have a professional and complete copy for my website! (Including extra suggestions, one-liners, and USPs for social media and marketing materials.) Alyssa really takes the time to get to know you, your product and helps you define your target audience in order to provide you with the best copy.

She was fantastic and easy to work with. Very professional, organized, and accommodating (Happy to book a meeting at 4 am due to our time difference!) An absolute pleasure to work with and would highly recommend her.
