I was thrilled when Dave and Morgan came to me, asking for a revamp of their website. Dave owns Veterinary Solutions Direct and Morgan is his right-hand woman :). Although Dave has owned VSD for many years, he never got around to the marketing side of things. Most of his business is through word of mouth (which shows how awesome he is)!

When talking to Dave, I could tell how much of a heart he has for those he serves. He genuinely wants to provide an out-of-this-world experience, where the people he serves feel like they’re part of a family — not just a business number.

I knew that it was very important to make this message crystal clear. So I began by researching his audience. What are their pain points and biggest concerns? What frustrates them the most in this business?

I started this project by writing an extensive Creative Brief. Here, I outlined the target audience, the features and benefits that VSD provides, and the brand voice and tone. I also added keywords that needed to be seamlessly placed into the copy.

I also provided Dave and Morgan with two, one-liner options that they can use across all their marketing material. Even though this likely won’t make it into their website copy, it’s a good idea for businesses to have readily available one-liners.

 
 

Next, I got started on the copy. I presented the first draft as a Google Doc and in a wireframe. That way, they could envision how it could look on their website.

 
 

I also re-wrote 40 product descriptions. The original product descriptions were not very detailed. My goal was to write products so that every buyer knew exactly what they were purchasing. In these descriptions, I carefully added both product features and benefits.

 
 

Dave and Morgan were very pleased with the copy and I only had to do one round of revisions before handing them their final copy. Currently, they’re still in the process of adding the copy to the website, but once it’s up, I’ll link to the new (and very improved) website!

What was Dave & Morgan’s response to the copy?

Before working with Alyssa our website was unable to get our point across to our customers, as well as lacking organization.

After working with Alyssa, we gained so much more than what we were looking for. We are now able to express our views and captivate our audience with less dialogue. On top of that, she went page by page with our website, creating a guide to follow to help with organization and creating an overall symmetrical look to our website. I loved that she gave us different options to use, meaning different worded paragraphs to add to our website, so we were able to pick what best aligned with our values.

Alyssa not only makes it a priority to fully understand your point of view and what you are trying to get across to your viewers. She also is able to present this to you in a way that makes the most sense, there is no confusion. When coming to her we did not know where to start, but Alyssa was able to guide us and have us think about our company in ways we haven't before.
